Substrate-Coating Development (Project)

Develop new Pt plating method for SS substrate in a high volume new medical device, requiring a very tight coating distribution

Review past & current scope, plan process DOE
Execute and collect data within DOE. Ensure ramp scalability and quality repeatability through data.
Coordinate progress reports for the customer.
Propose unique (cost effective) infrastructure to support ramp
Final result performed better than the competition with more consistent performance.

Electro-plating company needs to ramp multi-process operations from 1000 to 100,000 pcs / mo, small components for large Automotive cust.

Review current processes, past trials & cost implications.
Design trials, collect data of performance, perform data distribution studies, normalize lot yields.
Purchase or design new tooling to aid in ramp-up.
Barrel plating as a high yield, +/- 0.25um coating distribution process.
Within a couple months ramp up achieved to 50,000+ pcs per month, shipped.

Flow of performance data to senior management daily was inefficient and many times incomplete due to # of personnel involved.
Multi-department personnel flowing data to leadership from over 15 independent reports at different times.
Devised plug-n-play templates, internal data server file mapping, dashboards & quick live visual aids to allow for standard department reviews of data to also flow information up to management without additional layers.
Simple data exports resulted in versatile data reporting without expensive softwares.
